The Senior Designer will report to SI’s Creative Director and will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects—independently and in a group setting. This is primarily a print position for the biweekly publication and its other properties, although all candidates must have a strong understanding of how print translates to all digital platforms. The ideal candidate is passionate about design and sports.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design for all aspects of the magazine, including feature stories, packages and FOB pages.

  • Translate print assets for digital executions (web graphics and long-form)

  • Approve final color before press

  • Collaborate with designers and editors from multiple departments

  • Assign (or create) illustrations and infographics.


  • 1–3+ years years experience as a print designer for a publication or media company, with a B.A., B.S. or related degree

  • A strong portfolio that highlights typography and layout skills across all platforms: digital, print and social

  • Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch and Woodwing

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet their deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication skills

  • Illustration, Motion and Development knowledge is a plus.

Election Design Fellows are communication designers who assist states in the design of election materials, such as ballots, voter registration forms and educational websites. Fellows help to improve election accuracy and citizen experience, with respect to each state's local laws and election equipment, by implementing the election reforms mandated by the Federal Election Commission's Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA) and the ballot and polling place design guidelines suggested by AIGA Design for Democracy and the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC).
Design for Democracy partners with Secretaries of State and election officials to recruit, select and support well-qualified designers for termed, open positions.
